Vicksburg National Military Park Boundary Modification Act
What changed between versions
Total acreage conveyed to Mississippi was reduced from approximately 10.14 acres (3.66 + 6.48) to approximately 7.43 acres (1.69 + 5.74), a reduction of about 2.7 acres.
The original specific use designations for each parcel (welcome center for parcel A; interpretive center or museum for parcel B) were removed and replaced with the broader use restrictions in new subsection (c).
The conveyance method was changed from a general 'subject to any terms and conditions the Secretary determines appropriate' to a specific requirement of 'by quitclaim deed,' which is a weaker form of property transfer that does not guarantee clear title.
A new subsection (c) was added requiring that the conveyed land be used to facilitate public access to the Park and enhance the visitor experience consistent with the Park's interpretive mission, shall not adversely impact Park resources or visitor experience, and remains subject to any use restriction the Secretary determines appropriate.
Map references were updated from generic identifiers (VICK-2024-01 and VICK-2024-02) to specific NPS disposal document numbers (306/194,908 and 306/194,907) dated September 2024.
The boundary modification language was refined from 'to reflect the conveyance' to 'to exclude the Federal land conveyed,' making the action more explicit.
