Protect Children Through Safe Gun Ownership Act
This bill amends federal gun laws to enhance child safety. It requires parents/guardians to have actual knowledge that a juvenile’s handgun use will occur under active adult supervision (Section 2), and makes it unlawful to leave firearms unsecured where children might access them (Section 3a). Violators face civil penalties (up to $5,000 for repeat offenses) and allow family members to sue for injuries caused by unsecured guns (Section 3b). It also funds school-based grants to provide parents with gun safety education materials and best practices for secure storage (Section 4).
