DATA Act

The DATA Act requires large internet platforms (with 30 million or more U.S. monthly active users) to obtain explicit user consent before collecting or sharing data about users' habits, preferences, location, or beliefs. Platforms must clearly explain what data is collected, how it's used, and with which third parties it's shared - including the third party's name and country - each time users log in. Users can revoke consent at any time and request deletion of their data. The Federal Trade Commission will enforce the law, treating violations as unfair practices, and individuals can sue for at least $5,000 per violation.
