S 5229 United States Senate · 118th Congress

Judicial Modernization and Transparency Act

This bill would increase the number of Supreme Court justices from 9 to 14 (with a target of 15) and require justices to publicly disclose their votes on cases. It establishes new requirements for Supreme Court justices to submit their tax returns for public disclosure, with the IRS required to publicly report on examinations of these returns. The bill also adds numerous new district court judgeships across multiple states and requires a 2/3 supermajority for courts of appeals to invalidate an Act of Congress. These provisions aim to increase transparency in the judiciary and modernize the federal court system.
