S 4949 United States Senate · 118th Congress

Compassionate Care Act

The Compassionate Care Act aims to improve advance care planning for patients with serious or terminal illnesses by establishing a national public education campaign about advance care planning, creating a provider website with resources for health care professionals, and requiring training for health care professionals in end-of-life care. The bill permanently extends telehealth authorization for hospice care recertification and improves access to advance care planning through telehealth services. It also mandates studies on national uniform policies for advance directives and the feasibility of a national advance directive registry. These provisions directly affect Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP, and health care providers across various settings, including hospitals, hospice programs, and community health centers.
