PATH Act

The PATH Act (S 3794) authorizes $20 million annually to fund pre-apprenticeship programs in the building and construction trades through competitive federal grants. These programs, developed by nonprofit partnerships including industry, labor, and educational institutions, prepare individuals from underrepresented groups - such as racial minorities, women, veterans, and those from low-income communities - to enter registered apprenticeships. Grant funds cover 75% of program costs for up to 3 years (with a possible 1-year extension) and can be used for training, curriculum development, and participant stipends. To qualify, programs must partner with existing registered apprenticeship sponsors, align with industry standards, and demonstrate a clear pathway to apprenticeship placement.
