S 3649 United States Senate · 118th Congress

Flood Risk Transparency for Homebuyers Act

This bill requires the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to disclose specific flood risk information to homebuyers purchasing certain foreclosed properties. When selling a HUD-owned property located in a flood zone (defined as a 1-to-4 unit residential property acquired through FHA foreclosure), HUD must provide buyers with the estimated monthly flood insurance cost for the area and disclose if the property is a "severe repetitive loss property" (meaning it has flooded multiple times). HUD must also annually report to Congress on these properties where flood insurance claims were filed. The bill directly affects homebuyers purchasing HUD-owned properties in designated flood zones and aims to increase transparency about flood risk.
