Public Health Nursing Act
This bill authorizes $5 billion annually (2024-2033) for grants to state, local, and territorial public health departments to build and sustain public health nursing workforces. It requires grant funds to cover wages, training, and supplies for licensed registered nurses providing services in underserved areas - including maternal/infant health, chronic disease management, and infectious disease prevention - particularly in rural communities and high-mortality regions. Priority is given to applicants serving populations with high chronic disease rates, low-income groups, or health professional shortage areas. Recipients must maintain prior non-Federal funding levels for these activities and prioritize culturally appropriate service delivery.
