Gold Star Children Education Act of 2024
This bill allows children of service members who died while on active duty (called "Gold Star Children") to enroll in Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) schools without restrictions based on their previous enrollment status or current residence proximity to the school. It removes two key barriers: children no longer need to have been enrolled in a DoDEA school before their parent's death, nor must they live near the school they seek to attend. Enrollment is tuition-free and subject only to available space at the school. The bill directly affects dependents of covered service members, defined as those who died while serving on active duty or active Guard/Reserve duty.
