HR 9606 United States House · 118th Congress

Enhancing SAFER Grants for Local Firefighters Act

This bill modifies the SAFER Grants program to help local fire departments maintain staffing levels. It allows departments to use grant funds for retaining current firefighters (instead of just hiring new ones) and adds bonuses to eligible salary expenses. Fire departments that didn't receive initial funding can also amend their applications for up to five years instead of resubmitting new ones. The changes directly affect fire departments receiving or applying for SAFER Grants under the Federal Fire Prevention and Control Act.
