HR 6850 United States House · 118th Congress

Safe Landings Act

The Safe Landings Act requires the Federal Aviation Administration to implement safety measures to prevent runway misalignments, where aircraft accidentally land on taxiways or incorrect runways. It mandates development of cockpit alert systems for commercial airlines (Part 121 carriers) to warn pilots when not aligned with the correct runway, and establishes a Task Force to study human factors in aviation safety. The bill also requires updates to maintenance reporting transparency, reviews of safety inspection programs, and protections for safety data reporting. These provisions directly affect commercial airlines, air traffic controllers, aircraft manufacturers, and aviation safety personnel.
