Accountability for NYCHA Act of 2023

This bill requires HUD's Inspector General to investigate NYCHA's compliance with a 2019 agreement to fix housing deficiencies, including lead paint, mold, heat, and elevator issues. The investigation will assess NYCHA's progress, review the Monitor's oversight, survey housing conditions across its 177,000 apartments, and examine potential fraud or violations. The Inspector General must report findings and recommendations to Congress within 180 days. This aims to accelerate repairs for over 520,000 NYCHA residents who have endured unsafe living conditions for years due to NYCHA's ongoing noncompliance.
