HR 5416 United States House · 118th Congress

EVEST Act

The EVEST Act automatically enrolls veterans discharged or separated from the military on or after a specified date into the VA healthcare system. It requires the VA to use Defense Department eligibility data to enroll veterans within 60 days, then notify them via mail and email with opt-out instructions and electronic access to their eligibility certificate by August 2024. Veterans directly affected are those recently separated from service who qualify for VA healthcare. The VA must also report implementation challenges to Congress within a year and comply with GAO recommendations for improving enrollment notifications.
