Opioid Treatment Providers Act

HR 4788, the Opioid Treatment Providers Act, expands eligibility for existing federal health professions opportunity grants to include opioid treatment programs (as defined under current law) and other high-quality comprehensive addiction care providers. This change allows these treatment programs to apply for grants that help train healthcare workers, directly benefiting facilities providing medication-assisted treatment for opioid use disorder. The bill amends Section 2008(a)(4)(A) of the Social Security Act to add these programs to the list of eligible recipients, alongside community-based organizations. The amendment takes effect October 1, 2023.
