Stop Subsidizing Childhood Obesity Act
This bill would deny tax deductions for food companies that market unhealthy foods to children. It targets marketing primarily directed at children (age 14 or younger) for foods high in sugar, sodium, saturated fat, and other nutrients to limit, based on standards developed by the National Academy of Medicine. The bill would redirect tax revenue from these marketing practices to fund school fruit and vegetable programs. It specifically addresses disproportionate advertising to Black and Hispanic youth who currently see significantly more ads for unhealthy foods than their peers. The policy aims to reduce childhood obesity by changing marketing incentives and supporting healthier school nutrition options.
