Auto Data Privacy and Autonomy Act

The Auto Data Privacy and Autonomy Act (HR 10473) gives vehicle owners control over data collected by their cars, trucks, or farming/construction vehicles. It prohibits manufacturers from accessing, selling, or sharing this data without the owner's explicit, written consent (except for safety improvements or emergencies), bans sharing personal information with specific foreign governments (like China, Russia, or Iran), and requires free, unrestricted access to data via a secure, technology-neutral system. Manufacturers must enable owners to delete user-generated data and set preferences without fees, proprietary devices, or licensing. The Federal Trade Commission will enforce these rules, report on data practices within 180 days, and establish standards for data access interfaces within a year.
