HR 10347 United States House · 118th Congress

Magnus White Cyclist Safety Act of 2024

This bill requires new passenger cars, trucks, buses, and light commercial vehicles (under 10,000 lbs) to have automatic emergency braking systems that detect cyclists, pedestrians, and other vulnerable road users - including recognizing diverse skin tones and clothing. It applies to all new "covered vehicles" sold in the U.S., mandating the Transportation Secretary issue a rule within 3 years. The rule must ensure systems operate at required speeds, detect people on foot or biking, and account for varied appearances. Manufacturers must comply within 2 model years of the rule's finalization.
