HR 10342 United States House · 118th Congress

Military Housing Oversight and Service Member Protection Act

This bill establishes new oversight for privatized military housing to protect service members and their families. It requires the Department of Defense to implement formal contract standards, conduct regular health and building code inspections by independent inspectors, and publish financial details of housing contracts. The bill creates a registry for service members with health conditions linked to unsafe housing and presumes certain illnesses from such housing were incurred during military service. Family members of veterans who resided in privatized housing will now be eligible for health care related to those conditions. It also prohibits certain government officials from owning interests in housing entities.
