HR 10051 United States House · 118th Congress

Driver Technology and Pedestrian Safety Act of 2024

HR 10051, the Driver Technology and Pedestrian Safety Act of 2024, directs the U.S. Department of Transportation to commission a 24-month study on how driver-controlled technology - particularly touch screen systems in vehicles - affects pedestrian safety and traffic fatalities. The study will examine driver distraction from touch screens versus smartphones, compare injury/fatality rates under different road conditions, and assess user interface designs. After the study concludes, the Transportation Secretary must submit a public report to Congress and recommendations to improve data collection on vehicle technology use and traffic safety. This bill focuses on gathering evidence to inform future safety measures, not on implementing new regulations.
