Promoting Public Health Information Act

The Promoting Public Health Information Act (HR 1004) requires the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to establish a new advisory committee focused on improving communication of evidence-based public health information during emergencies, particularly addressing misinformation. The committee will recommend strategies to effectively share accurate health information, counter misinformation, and reach underserved communities, with a report to Congress within 180 days. The bill authorizes $45 million annually (2023-2027) for educational initiatives that teach the public to identify credible health information and misinformation through culturally appropriate, evidence-based programs. These initiatives must target populations especially vulnerable to health misinformation and be developed with input from the advisory committee and health experts. The advisory committee will terminate four years after the bill's enactment.
