SB 1471 Texas Senate · 89th Legislature (2025)

Relating to the rural constable's office salary assistance grant program.

This bill establishes a state grant program to assist rural counties in funding constable office salaries. It provides counties with population-based grants per precinct ($75,000 for counties under 10,000 population, $100,000 for 10,000-50,000, and $150,000 for 50,000-300,000) to meet minimum salary requirements. Counties must contribute 75% of the required salary costs and can only use grant funds for constable salaries ($65,000 minimum), deputy constable salaries ($45,000 minimum for traffic stops), hiring, or equipment purchases. The program prohibits using grant money for other purposes until salary requirements are fully met.
