Relating to a tuition exemption for the children of certain law enforcement officers.

HB 2185 creates a tuition exemption for children of Texas law enforcement officers who have completed 15 years of service in a state retirement system. Public colleges and universities must waive tuition, fees, and charges for these students (including stepchildren or adopted children), but the exemption does not cover room, board, or other non-tuition costs. The exemption applies for up to 120 undergraduate credit hours and ends when the student turns 26, requiring them to apply before age 21 (or 22 if in a special education program) and maintain academic standing. The bill takes effect September 1, 2025.
