HB 2022 removes the two-year time limit for filing personal injury lawsuits related to specific offenses against children or disabled individuals, such as sexual assault, trafficking, or continuous abuse. It allows victims to file lawsuits at any time - without a deadline - covering offenses listed in the Penal Code, including sexual assault of a child (§22.011(a)(2)), aggravated sexual assault of a child (§22.021(a)(1)(B)), and indecency with a child (§21.11). The law applies retroactively to cases of child sexual abuse that occurred before its effective date (September 1, 2025), regardless of prior time limits. It does not affect cases that were finalized before the effective date.
