Relating to the transfer of certain public school students who are children of peace officers.

HB 1628 allows children of peace officers (like police officers) to request transfers to another school campus or district in Texas. School districts must approve these transfers unless the receiving campus is at full capacity or has more transfer requests than available spots. The bill also prohibits districts from charging tuition fees for these transfers. This policy applies to all Texas public schools starting with the 2025-2026 school year.
