SB 288 Tennessee Senate · 114th Regular Session (2025-2026)

Firefighters - As enacted, adds prostate cancer, breast cancer, and pancreatic cancer to the list of cancers for which a presumption is created that certain conditions or impairments of full-time firefighters caused by prostate cancer, breast cancer, pancreatic cancer, or other listed cancers arose out of employment unless the contrary is shown by competent medical evidence. - Amends TCA Section 7-51-201.

SB 288 adds prostate cancer, breast cancer, and pancreatic cancer to the list of conditions where Tennessee firefighters can claim work-related injury presumption under state law. This means full-time firefighters diagnosed with these cancers after July 1, 2025, can automatically qualify for compensation unless medical evidence proves the cancer was unrelated to their job. To qualify, firefighters must obtain a cancer screening exam after July 1, 2025, showing no prior evidence of these cancers. The law, effective July 1, 2025, amends Tennessee Code Annotated Section 7-51-201.
