SB 756 Tennessee Senate · 113th Regular Session (2023-2024)

Elder Abuse - As enacted, authorizes a financial service provider, or an officer or employee of the provider, that has reasonable cause to suspect that an elderly or vulnerable adult is the victim or target of financial exploitation, to convey the suspicion to the TBI's elder financial reporting mechanism; requires the TBI to create an elder financial exploitation reporting mechanism that accepts reports from financial institutions. - Amends TCA Title 8; Title 38; Title 39; Title 45; Title 68 and Title 71.

This bill creates a formal reporting system for financial exploitation of elderly and vulnerable adults in Tennessee. It allows financial service providers and their employees to report suspected abuse to the state's Trustee and Bond Commissioner office. The law also requires the department to display a toll-free hotline for these reports on its website. By amending several state codes, the bill establishes a clear process for institutions to alert authorities when they suspect financial harm against older adults.
