Pensions and Retirement Benefits - As enacted, authorizes, until June 30, 2026, a retired member of the Tennessee consolidated retirement system, or of a local retirement fund, to be reemployed in a position covered by the retirement system without the loss or suspension of the member's retirement benefits if the member meets certain criteria; authorizes, until June 30, 2026, a law enforcement agency to employ a retired member for a full-time school resource officer position if certain criteria are met. - Amends TCA Title 8, Chapter 36, Part 8.
This bill allows retired members of the Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System or local retirement funds to return to work in covered positions without losing their pension benefits, provided they meet specific criteria. The law also permits law enforcement agencies to hire retired personnel as full-time school resource officers under similar conditions. A key change in the legislation reduces the time limit for reemployment from sixty days to thirty days after retirement. These provisions are authorized until June 30, 2026, and apply to both state and local retirement systems.
