Traffic Safety - As enacted, authorizes a county or municipality to hire employees or appoint volunteers to direct traffic within a school zone if certain conditions are met; establishes a Class C misdemeanor for a motor vehicle operator who knowingly ignores a regulatory or warning sign for the dropping off or picking up of students. - Amends TCA Title 39; Title 54 and Title 55.

This law allows local governments to hire staff or volunteers to manage traffic flow within school zones during student drop-off and pick-up times. To implement this, officials must install advance warning signs at least 500 feet before the zone and temporarily close or divert specific lanes only when flashers are active. Drivers who knowingly ignore these signs face a Class C misdemeanor charge punishable by a $50 fine. The rules do not apply to interstate highways or other federally designated roads.
