Education, Higher - As enacted, makes changes relative to a governing board of a public institution of higher education determining the institutional accrediting agencies or associations eligible to serve as an accreditor; prohibits an accrediting agency or association from compelling a public institution of higher education to violate any state law. - Amends TCA Title 49, Chapter 7.

This law updates how Tennessee public colleges and universities choose their accreditation agencies, requiring them to select from organizations recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. It ensures that schools can pick any eligible accreditor and protects institutions from being forced to break state laws to meet accreditation standards. If an accrediting agency retaliates against a school for following state laws, the school can sue for damages equal to its federal financial aid plus legal fees.
