Juvenile Offenders - As enacted, requires a child who has been admitted to a juvenile detention facility, prior to being adjudicated for an alleged delinquent act, to be allowed at least one telephone call and one 30-minute in-person visit with the child's parent, guardian, or legal custodian within 24 hours after the child is admitted to the juvenile detention facility. - Amends TCA Title 36; Title 37 and Title 41.
This law requires that children taken into juvenile detention before a court hearing be allowed at least one phone call and one 30-minute in-person visit with a parent or guardian within the first 24 hours. The bill also sets a maximum fine of $50 for violations of these visitation rules, which can be charged against the child or their parent. These changes apply to facilities operating under Tennessee state law and aim to ensure family contact during the initial intake process.
