Insurance, Health, Accident - As enacted, requires TennCare health benefit plans to provide coverage and reimbursement for mental health services and treatment to the same extent that the plans provide coverage and reimbursement for the treatment of alcoholism and drug dependence; makes related changes to insurance law relative to mental health and alcoholism or drug dependency. - Amends TCA Title 8; Title 33; Title 56 and Title 71.
This bill requires TennCare health benefit plans to cover mental health services to the same extent as they cover treatment for alcoholism and drug dependence. By mandating equal coverage, the law ensures that individuals enrolled in TennCare receive comparable benefits for mental health conditions as they do for substance use disorders. The change applies to all policies, plans, and contracts entered into, renewed, or modified on or after July 1, 2024.
