Teachers, Principals and School Personnel - As enacted, allows all LEA and public charter school employees, instead of only teachers, to receive their full salary, or average pay, and full benefits in the event they sustain a personal injury as the result of a physical assault or other violent criminal act committed against them while they are acting in the course and scope of their employment. - Amends TCA Title 49.

This bill expands paid leave protections for school staff in Tennessee by extending full salary and benefits to all employees, including principals and support staff, who are injured by violent criminal acts on the job. Previously, these protections applied only to teachers, but the new law ensures that any LEA or public charter school employee can receive their full pay and health insurance until they return to work or are permanently disabled. The legislation requires schools to cover the difference between an employee's full salary and any workers' compensation benefits they receive, while also preventing such leave from counting against existing sick or personal time. Additionally, the support for injured staff is limited to a maximum of one year, and the law does not override any existing contracts that offer even better benefits.
