AN ACT RELATING TO CRIMINAL OFFENSES -- WEAPONS

Senate Bill 1055 amends current law to expand the categories of individuals prohibited from purchasing, owning, carrying, transporting, or possessing a firearm. It specifically includes persons who have been convicted of or pleaded nolo contendere to a felony. The bill also prohibits individuals with certain misdemeanor convictions, such as simple assault or violating a protective order, and those in community confinement or under electronic surveillance as a condition of parole, from possessing firearms. Violations of these provisions can result in imprisonment, with some offenses carrying mandatory minimum sentences.
