SB 2954 Rhode Island Senate · 2024 Regular Session

AN ACT RELATING TO FISH AND WILDLIFE -- LOBSTERS AND OTHER CRUSTACEANS

This bill amends state fishing regulations to permit residents to harvest blue crabs during the hours of darkness, whereas the previous law restricted this activity to daylight hours. The legislation also corrects a terminology error by changing the term "land line" to the accurate "hand line" in the relevant section of the General Laws. By allowing crab harvesting after sunset and before sunrise, the measure expands the time window available for licensed residents to collect blue crabs using approved gear like scoop nets or trot lines.
