AN ACT RESPECTFULLY REQUESTING THE RHODE ISLAND COMMISSIONER OF ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY EDUCATION PREPARE A REPORT ON THE SCHOOL MEAL DEBT POLICY FOR ALL RHODE ISLAND SCHOOL DISTRICTS AND CHARTER SCHOOLS

This bill asks the Rhode Island Commissioner of Elementary and Secondary Education to create a report on how schools handle unpaid student meal debts. The report will detail policies regarding withheld privileges like diplomas and list the total debt amounts for the 2022-2023 and 2018-2019 school years across all districts and charter schools. It will also show how much debt was forgiven using federal funding and exclude any personal student information. The final document is scheduled to be sent to the House Finance Committee by January 30, 2025.
