AN ACT RELATING TO BUSINESSES AND PROFESSIONS -- NURSE ANESTHETISTS

This bill restricts registered nurses and nurse practitioners from administering general anesthetics and certain sedation drugs, such as propofol and ketamine, for surgical or diagnostic procedures. It designates licensed certified registered nurse anesthetists as the primary providers authorized to manage these medications, with specific exceptions for emergency airway situations or when treating intubated patients in intensive care settings. The legislation also clarifies that "Anesthesia Sedation Nurse Practitioner" is not a recognized specialty and explicitly prohibits non-anesthetist nurses from performing deep sedation or general anesthesia outside of these narrow emergency contexts.
