AN ACT RELATING TO MOTOR AND OTHER VEHICLES -- REGISTRATION OF VEHICLES

This bill authorizes the Rhode Island Division of Motor Vehicles to issue special license plates for vehicles registered to the Commercial Fisheries Research Foundation. The plates will feature the foundation's name, require a $40 issuance fee and a $10 annual renewal surcharge, and mandate that all funds raised from Rhode Island residents be used for local charitable organizations and fisheries research. To receive these plates, the foundation must meet minimum order requirements and submit an annual accounting report before distributing any raised funds. The legislation also specifies that the original vehicle plates must be returned and replaced with the new special plates, which are subject to the same size and display rules as standard registration plates.
