An Act amending Title 35 (Health and Safety) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes, in Commonwealth services, further providing for assistance to fire companies and EMS companies; and, in incentives for municipal volunteers of fire companies and nonprofit emergency medical services agencies, further providing for definitions, for volunteer service credit program, for service record, for certification and for duties of State Fire Commissioner.
This bill amends Pennsylvania's health and safety laws to update requirements for volunteer firefighters and emergency medical personnel who serve on hazardous materials teams. To qualify for a tax credit, these volunteers must now hold a specific HAZMAT Operations or Technician certificate and complete at least four training drills or exercises annually. The legislation also clarifies definitions and procedures for volunteer service credits, service records, and certifications under the state's emergency response programs.
