Authorizes the New York city council to remove the mayor from office
Bill S 7715 authorizes the New York City Council to remove the Mayor from office. Currently, only the Governor has this power. Under this bill, the Council could initiate removal proceedings by serving charges and providing the Mayor an opportunity to be heard. A three-quarter majority vote of all council members would be required for removal. The Council could also temporarily suspend the Mayor for up to 30 days with the same supermajority vote while charges are pending.
