Provides for service credit related to the birth or adoption of a new child

This bill allows correction officers in New York's retirement system to earn service credit for unpaid leave taken for the birth or adoption of a child. To qualify, officers must file a claim by specific deadlines, pay back contributions they would have made during the leave (plus interest), and already have at least five years of service (or apply within 90 days of reaching five years). The credit granted cannot exceed one year per leave period. This change applies specifically to correction officer members covered under the retirement system, ensuring their leave time counts toward retirement eligibility.
