Relates to out-of-network treatment disclosure for certain surgical procedures

Bill A 6143 requires hospitals and clinics performing pre-approved surgical procedures to notify patients within 24 hours if any part of the surgery will be provided by an out-of-network provider. Notifications must be delivered via phone, email, or text at the time of insurance approval, with a mailed confirmation within 24 hours. If the notice isn’t given at least 48 hours before the surgery, the facility must cover the full cost as if the provider were in-network. This applies to non-emergency surgeries requiring insurance pre-approval, excluding procedures performed within 24 hours of an injury.
