Relates to providing volunteer emergency medical technicians enhanced cancer disability benefits

This bill requires ambulance districts, departments, and companies to provide enhanced cancer disability and death benefits to volunteer emergency medical technicians (EMTs) with at least five years of service and a cancer-free physical exam at the start of their service. It offers a $25,000 lump sum for cancers that have spread or are terminal, a $6,250 lump sum for certain early-stage cancers, up to 36 months of $1,500 monthly disability payments, and a $50,000 death benefit if cancer causes death. All benefits are capped at $50,000 total for disability claims over a volunteer’s lifetime, and ambulance organizations must cover costs until 60 months after the volunteer stops serving. Annual reports on claims and benefits will be submitted to the state legislature.
