Relates to copayments for pre-exposure or post-exposure prophylaxis

This bill requires large group health insurance policies and contracts to cover the costs of pre-exposure and post-exposure prophylaxis medications used to prevent HIV infection. Under the law, insurers may charge annual deductibles, coinsurance, or copayments for these drugs, provided the amounts are reasonable and consistent with costs for other benefits in the same plan. However, if the specific HIV prevention medication has received an 'A' or 'B' rating from the United States Preventive Services Task Force, it must be covered without these cost-sharing requirements. The legislation applies immediately to all insurance policies and contracts that are issued, renewed, or modified on or after the effective date.
