Modifies physician assistant standards in the state of New York

This bill updates the rules for how physician assistants practice medicine in New York, specifically changing limits on how many they can work under one doctor and clarifying their ability to write medical orders in hospitals. It increases the maximum number of physician assistants a private practice physician can supervise from four to six and raises the limit for those working with the Department of Corrections from six to eight. The legislation also expands the specific medical tests and treatments physician assistants can prescribe and order, such as tests for HIV, hepatitis C, and COVID-19, while maintaining the requirement that they work under a supervising physician. Additionally, it requires hospital-based physician assistants to be able to write inpatient medical orders immediately without needing a countersignature before the order takes effect. Finally, the bill mandates that records of all prescriptions filled by physician assistants be kept for at least five years.
