S 7834 New York Senate · 2023 Regular Session

Relates to qualified energy storage systems

This bill expands the state's major renewable energy development program to include qualified energy storage systems that are not built alongside existing renewable facilities. Specifically, it allows owners of large-scale energy storage systems with a capacity of over 5,000 kilowatts to apply for siting permits under the same rules used for major renewable projects. To fund the administrative costs of reviewing these applications, the bill authorizes the state office to charge a $50,000 fee for storage system permits. The changes take effect 90 days after the bill becomes law.
