S 4131 New York Senate · 2023 Regular Session

Authorizes a personal income tax credit for residential solar energy systems

This bill proposes a personal income tax credit for New York residents who purchase and install solar energy systems at their primary homes. The credit covers the cost of buying solar equipment, leasing solar panels under agreements lasting at least ten years, or purchasing solar-generated power from a third party under similar long-term contracts. It also allows the credit to be shared among multiple owners of a home or split between individual members and their housing associations for condominiums and cooperatives. To prevent abuse, the legislation limits each taxpayer to claiming this credit for only one residence.
