S 1892 New York Senate · 2023 Regular Session

Adds ammunition to the list of prohibited items to purchase or dispose of after certain convictions

This bill updates New York State law to explicitly include ammunition alongside firearms as prohibited items for individuals with certain criminal convictions or outstanding felony warrants. It makes it a class D felony for people who are legally barred from owning weapons to buy, acquire, or sell ammunition, as well as for anyone who knowingly provides ammunition to such prohibited individuals. The legislation applies to anyone subject to a prior conviction that restricts weapon possession or anyone currently facing an arrest warrant for a felony or serious offense. By clarifying these restrictions, the bill aims to close a potential loophole where someone could legally purchase a gun but remain able to buy or sell bullets.
