Relates to education transportation contracts

This bill requires school districts in cities with at least one million people to include specific protections for school bus workers in their transportation contracts. It mandates that these contracts preserve the wages, benefits, and seniority of current bus operators, mechanics, dispatchers, and attendants who might lose their jobs if a contract is not renewed. Additionally, the legislation gives the state education commissioner expanded authority to reject contract extensions if they fail to account for regional inflation or if the contract has already lasted ten years. The law applies to all bus workers employed by contractors or subcontractors in these large cities as of June 30, 2023, who become unemployed due to contract losses or service reductions.
