Relates to providing county correction officers with a special optional twenty year retirement plan
This bill creates a new optional retirement plan specifically for county correction officers and deputy sheriffs performing correction duties in New York. Under the proposal, an employer must first choose to offer this benefit before individual officers can sign up, allowing them to retire after twenty years of service or at age sixty-two. Participants in this plan would receive a pension equal to one-fortieth of their final average salary for each year of service, capped at 50% of that salary, with extra contributions paid by the employer to fund these benefits. Additionally, the plan allows for further pension increases for service beyond twenty years, provided the total payout does not exceed 75% of the final average salary.
