MINIMUM CAR INSURANCE AMOUNTS

SB 319 requires New Mexico drivers to carry minimum insurance coverage for uninsured and underinsured motorists, including specified limits for bodily injury, death, and property damage. The bill updates existing law to mandate that all motor vehicle liability policies include these minimum coverage levels (defined in Section 66-5-215) and requires insurers to provide separate coverage selection forms for each vehicle. It prohibits driving or operating a vehicle without this coverage and clarifies that underinsured motorist coverage must be included in policies. The law will take effect on January 1, 2026.
